diet food

When following the Pritikin plan, the diet food you'll be eating will largely be based on natural high-carbohydrate choices therefore you'll want to do the majority of your grocery shopping around the outside of the supermarket.

The diet food you'll be looking for are all the fruits and vegetables you would like, including the starchy varieties such as corn, peas and carrots.

In addition to those you'll be eating the diet food of potatoes, yams and brown rice. Think of trying to consume foods that have gone through the least processing possible. For example, if trying to decide between whole wheat bread and oatmeal for breakfast, consider which is 'closest to the ground'. While whole wheat bread is still a great choice, it has gone through more stages to get to be whole wheat bread than oatmeal has, which basically comes as is.

You'll also want to consume plenty of legumes including black beans and pinto beans. These will really help you meet your protein requirements since you will not be eating quite as much meat as you would on a more traditional diet.

Lastly, the plan does call for you to supplement with lean meat and seafood so this would include choices such as chicken breasts, white turkey meat, cod, salmon, shrimp, sole, lean steak and lobster.

The choices that you'll really want to focus on avoiding include crackers, cereals (processed), granola bars, pretzels, cookies, pasta, breads and bagels along with any other snack type of foods that have gone through a large manufacturing process.
