Macrobiotic diet

Popularized by celebrities such as Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow, the Macrobiotic Diet is a diet meal plan that involves eating grains as a staple food, supplemented with other local foodstuffs such as vegetables and beans.

Japan is the home of modern Macrobiotic Diets, and as a result, many people use a lot of Japanese ingredients. However, strictly speaking one should use local ingredients. As might be expected, sugar and other highly processed foods are avoided, and in addition, adherents are advised to chew food thoroughly and avoid overeating.
