Atkins diet

One of the most controversial diets on the market, the Atkins Diet adopts a very low carbohydrate approach. This popular diet meal plan was developed by Dr. Robert Atkins in the 1960s based on his medical training.

The Atkins Diet has four phases: Induction, Ongoing Weight Loss (OWL), Pre-maintenance, and Maintenance, the length of these different phases depending on the individual and the progress they make.

A diet plan review of the Atkins Diet shows that carbs, which are highly restricted at the start, are gradually added back in, although sugar and refined grains are permanently restricted.

Pros : Atkins diet

  • It works! Research has demonstrated sustained weight loss at 6 months
  • When carbohydrates are restricted, people tend to spontaneously reduce their calorie intake
  • Detailed diet meal plans
  • Subjects experience markedly improved glucose levels and insulin sensitivity, as well as lower triglycerides and cholesterol - all indicators of improved health.

Verdict : Atkins diet

For someone looking to lose a lot of weight, the Atkins Diet can be a life-saver. Millions of people have used it, and many swear by it. However, it is very restrictive, particularly at the start, so strong will-power is an essential ingredient for success on this diet meal plan.
