Pritikin diet book to lose weight

The Pritikin diet book was developed by Nathan Pritikin, and has been taken a stage further by his son Robert.

The key feature of the Pritikin diet books is that they focus on a very low fat eating plan, with the emphasis on consuming mostly vegetables, grains and fruits - the goal is to keep dietary fat below 10%.

The theory behind Pritikin diet books is based on research that shows that eating a very low fat diet can help prevent or reduce the effects of a number of conditions and diseases, including:

  • Heart disease
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Hypertension
  • Obesity
It has also been shown to help reduce cholesterol levels, and lower blood sugar.

Another part of the plan is regular exercise. The authors recommend at least 30 minutes of exercise per day, a mixture of two to three weights sessions per week, plus regular cardio sessions, such as brisk walking.

There is no doubt that this is an incredibly healthy eating plan - reducing fat, and focusing on preparing and eating healthy, low-fat meals and snacks will definitely improve your health, and more than likely cause you to lose weight.
