Sibutramine for effective weight loss

By blocking neurotransmitters, Sibutramine can help you to feel full more quickly, and thus reduce the amount of food you eat.

Sibutramine is sold under the brand name Reductil in Europe and the UK, and as Meridia in the USA.

Sibutramine is only prescribed to those who are extremely obese (BMI of 30 plus) or those with a BMI of over 27 and other medical complications, such as risk of heart disease or type 2 diabetes.

Drugs of this nature do not work without help from you, however - it is also necessary to follow an appropriate diet and exercise program in order to give the medication a chance of success.

So does it work? Studies indicate that, on average, those taking this medication and also following a weight-loss diet and exercise program can lose up to 7% of their body weight within 6-12 months.

It should be noted that some patients don't have this level of success - many people assume the drug will do everything and as a result make no efforts to eat appropriately or exercise.

This drug is not for everyone. It is contraindicated for those with:

  • High blood pressure
  • Heart disease
  • Heart failure
  • Peripheral vascular disease
  • Abnormal heart beat
  • A history of strokes
