Dumbell set for home fitness

For those wanting to workout at home, a dumbbell set is one of the best purchases you can make. The nice thing about a dumbbell set is that there are such a wide variety of different exercises you can perform with it so you can be sure you are getting a full body workout.

When purchasing a dumbbell set there are a few things to consider.

First look at the type of end piece you want. Generally, metal or chrome ones will work better than plastic as plastic can get stripped over time and will not provide a solid secure closure for the weight on the bar.

Secondly, decide whether you would prefer an adjustable set or would like to purchase individual weights. The advantage to the adjustable set is that it will take up a lot less room and you can very cheaply increase the weight when you are ready. The small plates that you would then purchase are very cost effective and again, easy to store.

The disadvantage to this type however is that you will spend more time having to change the weight for each exercise you do (as most people will not use the same weight for each exercise). So if that is a factor for you, you may want to just purchase 1, 2, 5, and 10 pound pieces instead. This should give you a good place to start (unless you are more advanced) and then when you are ready you can go on to purchase 15 and 20 pounders.
