High calorie food

When on a low protein diet, you'll likely be looking to take in more high calorie food in order to meet your energy requirements for the day.

Meat and meat products are usually a fairly concentrated source of energy so with these lowered from the diet, finding an alternative high calorie food to act as a replacement is important.

The best high calorie food to look to for is likely going to be those that are higher in fat. Since these options will be lower in volume they will help you meet your needs without causing you to feel too full. Examples of such choices would be nuts, nut butters, oil salad dressings, avocados, olives and regular fat cheeses. Be careful as some of these will have more saturated fat than others but as long as you keep it at the moderate level you should be okay. Saturated fat is not quite as bad as many people thought at one time so some in the diet is alright.

Then, on the carbohydrate side of things, try and consume more dense sources such as bagels, pasta's, rice, granola and grainy breads. These will be better choices than consuming large quantities of fruits, vegetables, popcorn and light cereals as far as meeting your energy needs is concerned.

It likely is still a smart idea to somewhat track how much you are eating even while on a low protein diet because if you eat too many of the above choices then you will still begin to gain weight.
