Anorexia

Both biological and social factors can play a part in the onset of Anorexia nervosa. Anorexia usually starts in the teenage years, and mainly affects girls, although boys can also suffer from this eating disorder.

Research suggests that around 1% of young women suffer from this. It is characterised by low body weight (at least 15% normal), overwhelming fear of putting on weight, and a pattern of self-induced weight loss.
